Other Plans

I have been trying to spend a good amount of time writing and playing; however, life has other plans for me. This is essentially okay because some of the "other plans" are of my own design. I am a student as well as a student teacher. Don't get me wrong, I love both of those things! I want nothing less than to be a great teacher; although, my personal time has been dwindled away to nearly nothing. Actually, that is not completely true. I have free time, it's just that I am so wiped from all the school (I teach during the day and then attend classes one night a week) that I can barely do anything other than sleep. Let us not forget the homework. The amount of work that teachers have to do outside of their job is insane. Especially for student teachers and first and second year teachers. We have not done this before so we need to spend more time preparing ... and less time on things that we enjoy, such as hobbies, such as music.

What makes this situation most frustrating is the fact that I write and play songs because it is a good escape from my responsibilities. I love it because it does not take too much time to do and I do not neglect my responsibilities. I write a few lyrics here, play a song there. It's perfect. But now that I've started student teaching, I am spending all of my energy on it and very little on my songs.

I have managed to build my web page, which I am very proud of because I did it all myself with little starting knowledge on web design. The process was difficult but the end product is quite exciting! I have also been been working on a new song in the precious free minutes that I find now and then. It is called Passenger. It's about how, on the road known as life, some other force does the driving for you; you really aren't in control of where you are going. What is this "other force"? I have no idea ... but it is certainly taking me down streets that I don't necessarily intend to go.

Here is a teaser quote:
"Suddenly I realize, that I'm not driving
this yellow taxi cab in which I ride."
Well, I don't think I know where it is that I'm going
and this driver sure as hell can't make up his mind."

As you can see, I have named my blog after a line in the song. I think it aptly applies.

Take care!
