Rob, My Invisible Friend

I thought I had taken some pictures with my camera phone in the last week or so that would be worth posting. But, when I downloaded them to my computer, most of them were pictures of me in my car making funny faces to occupy myself when I was waiting for Stephanie on Thursday. She was late because she had to take a detour. A furniture store was burning to the ground on the road that she normally takes. We almost bought a bed from that furniture store.

Anyways, there were also some pictures of white tulips that someone had brought to Lena's.

There was also a picture of the list:

It was a longer list than usual for open mic. We ('we' being various people that commented on the long list and packed house and engaged in general discussions about it adding insight when appropriate) surmised that because of Good Friday, there was no school and, thus, people could stay out later.

It truly was a packed house. I don't think there was an empty seat. Gary Moon hosted. I played thirteenth. I messed up my first song horribly by forgetting the words... twice! Apparently, I was quite entertaining, however, because at the end of the night a nice lady approached me and told me that I was "fun" and that she had "fun." We talked about my mistakes and my reactions to my own mistakes. You see, I completely made fun of myself when I forgot the words and told everyone that Rob (a voice in my head) caused the mistake, then he fixed it by telling me the words. It's tough to explain exactly how it all went, but people were laughing loudly, which -- I suppose -- denotes that they were having fun.

The song I messed up was the unnamed cover song. Gary sympathized with my mistake because he had covered it at some of his gigs.

I also played Passenger. I gave the audience a choice of what they wanted to hear. I have been doing that a lot lately: giving choices. I think that's a good way to engage the audience. Especially, at an open mic where it's a parade of performers and a rhythm usually doesn't develop. If you are a musician at an open mic, you are waiting and waiting for your turn. If you are just a listener, then you are waiting and waiting for the person you came with to perform. If you are a listener who did not come with a specific person, then it's tough to stay focused when a new performer takes the stage every seven to ten minutes.

Yesterday, I ordered tickets for my dad for a Doobie Brothers concert. It was exciting because I got orchestra pit seats, which are hard to come by. When I clicked on "buy tickets" and selected the number that I wanted and "best available" the screen changed and showed me the tickets. It said "section 40" and I nearly spilled my ginger ale. Seeing "section 40" printed on a ticket is the coolest thing ever. I love SPAC.

I made some changes on my website. I put a new rotating banner on the side. You'll notice that there are random pictures that come up each time you load a new page. That's kind of neat. I also threw in the towel with regards to the guestbook. I kept getting spam. I tried a bunch of different things to try and solve the problem but none of them worked for more than a day or so. So, there is no more guestbook.

I'm thinking about changing the friends page to a links page and including other websites like WEXT 97.7, Myspace, Venues, etc. I notice a lot of other musicians have photo links on their links pages. I would most likely do that as well.

I might change the photos page again too. Currently, it's overwhelming. It shouldn't be.
