Business

I have been insanely busy this past week. Today is a little less busy and I find myself with a couple of hours of free time; though, I do not know what to do with myself. I'm so used to having to do things that I've lost the ability to come up with things to do for myself.

I've taken lots of camera-phone pictures during the busy week and I plan on posting them with an interestingly devised narrative of the busy-ness. However, I don't think I have time to do that now. (I wasted most of the couple of hours of free time on trying to decide how to spend it).

What I do have time to do, is write about Fulton Books, which is a small independent book store in Gloversville and has hosted open mic nights and other musical performances, and is going out of business this coming Friday. (I am trying to bring up the local newspaper's website to post a link to an article about the closing, but www.leaderherald.com is not coming up... ).

The owners of the book store also own the adjacent computer store, which is also closing. They have been in business for quite a few years (or so I think), and it's sad that they are closing. It's especially sad for musicians (even ones who don't regularly attend the open mic and only sporadically attend), because there aren't a lot of places for us to play around here.

I liked their open mic. Some nights were better than others. But, where are you going to go, locally, and listen -- actually listen -- to music? Nowhere, now.

(Although, you can certainly go to the Gloversville Farmers Market on Saturday mornings where there will be live music from local musicians. One such local musician writes his own music and will be playing on three separate days. Should one be inclined to see/hear the aforementioned local musician at the aforementioned farmers market, then one should visit the dates page of his website www.jamesfrederick.net.)
