My Motorcycle

A new song. A decision. And things I should be doing instead of blogging. Firstly, however, I saw Angels and Demons on Friday. It was quite an excellent movie. I was mostly on the edge of my seat (figuratively). After the movie, Stephanie filled in all of the gaps and explained that some of the events occured very differently in the book. I hadn't read the book. I should have. But, then the movie wouldn't have been as good. This way, I enjoyed the movie and am intrigued to read the book. Yes, I realize this is quite the opposite of what I typically preach as far as books and films made from books are concerned.

I am in bed at 8 o'clock on Sunday, because it's too late to mow the lawn (not to mention, I am much too tired to engage in physically demanding activities, such as mowing the lawn). I could be playing my guitar and practicing (and possibly re-working) the new song that I'll write about in a moment, but I don't have the energy. I also don't have the energy to work on Inside the Open Mic. Nor do I have the desire to.

Which brings me to the "decision" I mentioned above. I'm going to complete two more episodes of my video series Inside the Open Mic... and then I'm going to go on hiatus. Over the year and a half that I worked on the series, I have gone from being very-excited about the project to less-than-happy about it to oh-my-god-don't-make-me-do-it-I-don't-want-to-do-it-I'd-rather-die-than-work-on-the-damn-thing-shoot-me-in-the-face-please. The next episode is episode 14 and it will feature Erin Powers (when I finish it). The series finale (if you will) will feature myself and hasn't been filmed yet.

While this will be the end of Inside the Open Mic as we know it, I may continue to make videos at Caffe Lena. Right now, I am thinking about doing a short segment every week that I host in which I film some of the performers during their time slots and making comments here and there and them cut them all together. It will be like open mic in a nutshell. My hopes is to capture more of the improvisational moments that occur randomly throughout the night. Inside the Open Mic has just become too rehearsed and predictable.

In other news: I wrote a new song Friday (lyrics) and Saturday (music). It's called My Motorcyle and fits very good into the "dreams" theme that I typically write in, because I don't own a motorcyle and have never driven one and the song is really about what I imagine driving a motorcyle might be like.

Here is the first verse:

The sun is setting on the horizon
I'm heading off in a new direction
Wearing jeans and a black leather jacket
three-quarter helm and dark sunglasses

I'm gonna ride my motorcyle
I'm gonna ride, ride, ride my motorcyle

You can't really tell how it goes typed out like that, but the music is pretty cool and I can hear a neat little lead part that could be played over it when appropriate. The lyrics are alright. I think I need to work out some things in the second and third verses, however.
